The Music Ministry at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church exists to praise, reverence, and serve the Lord through beautiful music that points toward heaven. All that we do is for the glorification of God and the sanctification of the faithful.
Cantor: the cantor’s primary role is to intone the chants of the mass and lead the congregation in song. Cantors must be familiar with reading music and able to pick up new tunes quickly.
Choir: The Parish Choir sings twice a month at the 11AM Mass, as well as on feasts, solemnities, and Holy Days. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings. This choir is open to all people in the parish 8th grade and above. All levels of singers are welcomed, so the participation and kindness of each will allow the choir to grow in charity and community spirit.
Women’s Schola: The Women’s Schola is an audition-based ensemble that focuses on chant and polyphony. They strive to emulate the sound of (as well as utilize the arrangements of) the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles. The Women’s Schola sings once a month at the 8:30AM Mass and for select Holy Days.
Children’s Choir: The Children’s Choir is open to youth in grades 2-6 and sings for the Christmas and Easter seasons. Rehearsals are held weekly leading up to these masses.
Bell choir: the bell choir prepares music for All Souls Day, Christmas, and Easter. This ensemble practices once a week leading up to the mass they are preparing for.

Beginning Fall 2023, St. John the Baptist began a Women’s Schola. We take our inspiration from the recordings of the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles, a cloistered community in Gower, MO. A “Schola” is an audition-based choir that focuses on liturgical music. A beginning proficiency in ensemble-singing and sightreading is needed. Members must be able to read music and sing on pitch. This group is for women and women with school-aged children. Childcare is provided for rehearsal times.
The Schola rehearses twice a month on Friday mornings and sings for occasional 8:30 AM Mass, select Holy Days, and the Rorate Caeli Mass in December.
If you are interested in singing with us, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Brenda Sevcik at [email protected].
