First Reconciliation

Preparation begins in the fall of each year for children in Grade 2 and older. St. John's follows the guidelines of the Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis and requires children be prepared for the Sacrament of Penance prior to receiving Eucharist. Preparation is family-centered, using materials separate from but aligning with curriculum used in the school and RE classrooms. Detailed information is provided in the pamphlet Preparing Your Child for First Sacraments: Baptism, Penance & Communion.

Children preparing for First Sacraments are required to be enrolled in a faith formation program, either through a Catholic school or parish religious education program, for an entire year prior to preparing for sacraments.

To register your First Sacrament candidate for religious education at St. John's, click here for a REGISTRATION FORM. Parents of children attending St. John the Baptist Catholic School who wish their child(ren) to prepare for First Sacraments, should complete the information in the Preparing Your Child For First Sacraments, linked above, and return the completed form to the RE Office. The First Sacrament Preparation Materials fee of $70 covers the cost of all preparation materials, including retreats, for both the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Communion.
