COMMISSIONS & MINISTRIES

In response to the 2017 Parish Survey, Father DeGrood introduced the Strategic Planning Initiative (SPI). This team of volunteers assisted Father DeGrood in evaluation of all aspects of St. John's operations and refining the church Mission and Vision.

St. John’s Vision is to be “All In Now…so we are All in Heaven." It is rooted in Jesus’ teaching in the Gospel of Mark (12:30-31a) “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Our vision is intended to help everyone be “All In” love now and forever by receiving and sharing God’s divine love each day.

The way we intend to live the St. John’s Vision is through our Mission:

To know, love, and serve God and others by growing our faith, our parish, and the Catholic Church. We achieve this by developing our youth, engaging our community, and meeting their spiritual needs at every stage of life.

Using the Parish Survey, the SPI formed commissions. The commissions were initiated to process feedback from the survey, research best practices, and to recommend possible action items which reflect St. John's Vision and Mission.

Those commissions are:

Communication

Education and Evangelization

Facilities

Fellowship

Pastoral Care

Time, Talent, and Treasure

Worship and Liturgy

Youth and Family

These commissions, made up of gracious and talented parish volunteers, worked on assessing our committee structures, analyzing needs, and brainstorming solutions. The eight commissions then presented their top three recommendations to the Parish Council in May of 2018. Twenty-three strategies were recommended to begin implementation. Those 23 recommendations were published in the parish bulletin over the course of 14 weeks from October 2018 through the second week in December 2018. You can see the briefing on those 23 SPI top initiatives HERE.

Those initial commissions were then reduced from eight to seven. The Facilities Commission was changed to the Facilities Committee to be a subcommittee of the Finance Council since much of their work is so closely tied to the allocation of financial resources. The Communications Commission will become a commission of communication and marketing support for project and event execution to each of the remaining commissions.

The many ministries that St. John's offers each fall under a commission. Every commission has a staff liaison in addition to a volunteer chairperson. More details about each commission can be found by clicking on the commission name in the navigation bar or the sidebar of this page.

As St. John's continues to evolve to be the kind of church that meets the expectations and needs of all those within the community, we stick with one clear and resounding message of encouragement for staff, parishioners, students, educators, and administration by being
"All In Now, so we are All In Heaven."
